Good news on the beauty front

baby bangs
#BikeGirlProblem of the day - Hair sticking in my lip gloss. Mostly I wear MAC Lip Glass. The above is Nymphette.
When you try to be a safe and alert rider and turn your head, your hair cannot resist being blown by the wind directly into your sticky fresh lip gloss.

Great News: You can get Lip Glass on the Back to MAC program! That’s when you return 6 used-up MAC containers. You get to choose a free lipstick or lip glass.

I turned in 12 containers last night and got an oldie-goody C-Thru and at Liz’s impromptu suggestion I took Nymphette and I am in love with it. I’m crazy about lip glass because the container is very small, colors are sheer, it’s thicker than most lip prods and you don’t have to really pay attention when you put it on. No precision is really required. Not like that high maintenance lipstick stuff.

Other good news: Cutting my hair myself for the past 6 months or so was a great idea. I got my desired haircut- a wavy little bob. People hated on Chloe’s shaggy bob but I loved that mutha and decided baby bangs and shaggy sides was my aim and now I’m there.

My middle part is a little wonky but I don’t like to work too much on my hair and I don’t believe in fighting my waves. Even though I spend way too much time thinking about and discussing my hair and my plans for my hair with friends and co-workers and the internet. (Most of the traffic my blog gets is hair-related so people who get up in this piece have to wade through bike stuff to get to the hair posts :) Hi!

MAC Wonder Woman. Yes, Again.

Purple Palette Eyes
I went to have my makeup done at MAC for their Wonder Woman collection. (This is independent of the class I was going to, but was canceled because of snow.)

I had to tell them that I jumped the gun and went to the pop-up shop. I started the day with pretty great makeup so not much happened at the event in the way of makeup.

We socialized mostly! These girls are A. Wearing my rings and B. Cleaning them with either brush cleaner or eye-makeup remover. I am not superstitious about other girls trying on my engagement ring.
Wonder Women
They had on cute Wonder Woman tees.

Liz used the colors in this palette on me and I was impressed with how pigmented the darker colors were. This is a great palette.

My tights got all ripped-up early in the morning, but I decided that they were "Kesha Style" and didn't fetch new ones. I wore them with pride. Then I threw 'em in the trash. ;(

I already own so many purples that I passed on this palette. I made purchases from the Mickey Contractor collection. The things I got are sold out online and they were uncertain if they could even sell me the few things they had left - They confirmed that they could before they broke them out for me to look at. I'm eager to use the palette I got and the hunter green shadow this week. Hopefully!

I also bought a new blending brush after Liz hooked my purple eye up like this. I got the 224 Tapered Blending Brush. Yes! It was a kick in the balls for $29, but it's going to be super-helpful many many days and nights and last for several years.

Reformed Bag Lady/Annie Hall Type

I wanted an easy, comfy outfit today, so I went for this Sears vintage plaid blouse, and threw on my trusty leopard jacket - Because Plaid & Leopard are in order, and super-high-waist Marc Jacobs raw denim jeans. Red lips, Red Cons.
Reformed Bag Lady Look
From Head to Toe:
Hat - Tsuyumi (Craftacular Purchase!)
Coat - H&M (Last Year New Year's Eve Clearance Score)
Shirt - Vintage Sears (Arkansas Thrifted)
Jeans - Marc by Marc Jacobs (Bloomingdale's Sale)
Bag - L.A.M.B. (ideeli)
Sneakers - Converse (Fate at TJ Maxx - East Harlem)

I didn't ride my bicycle today because of the uncomfortably cool drizzle this morning, and I'm glad I did not ride, because I walked home in the snow.

This plaid shirt demands RED LIPS and here is a Pro Longwear color I haven't used in a while.
Giving Red Lip on a Gray Day
It's MAC Pro Longwear Lipcolor in Lasting Lust and it stays on, but it's dry and not the most comfortable form of lipstick, so I actually prefer Ruby Woo and it looks pretty much the same. -Or Lady Danger.

Lady Danger- Early Nov.

And Ruby Woo- on September 8th, on my way to see Jimmy Fallon -
The guests were so bad unappealing that no one would leave work early to go with me.

I went shopping tonight and bought nothing but gifts, so I can't show anything.

Saturday Business

I'm kind of sick and delicate today. I'm kind-of high on allergy medicine. I only had the strength to do some fall-cleaning that's not in the Martha Stewart Homekeeping Handbook (my bible.)

1. I threw away all the plants we killed this summer. It's a cute idea to grow stuff on our terrace, but it's not so cute to forget those plants exist and let them dry-up and turn to dust in the sun.

2. I cleaned my make-up brushes! This should really be every Saturday Business but this is the first time in weeks. They will perform better and feel better and stop contaminating my skin with dirty old funk.
Cleaned my brushes today

I have several MAC brand brushes, but I also have bunches of the $1 variety that have worked out great and lasted for years. You never know with make-up brushes. I'm hardest on my concealer brush & angled blush brush.

I rolled a towel at each end so they wouldn't lay flat and the ends wouldn't get bent while they dried.

3. I organized my jewelry & accessories a little bit. The overall situation isn't great. They really should all be in ONE PLACE together but they're not. But they're in the same area of my dressing area.
My accessory landing pad
That gold watch came from my father's company on a milestone anniversary of him working there and I got it right after my mom died so it's almost 10 years old. It needs a new battery but I'm ready to wear it this fall & winter. It's skinny Gold Watch time. I also have a gold watch ring there and I hope a new battery can save it. It's really cute!

My chunky bracelets are in these containers from The Container Store.

This is what my wardrobe looks like right now. It's time for us to do a fall-switch-out at our Mini-Storage unit.
Stolmen Wardrobe as of 10/9/10

Sorry to be repetitive... But if you don't already know - we live in a 375sf tenement apartment and I don't have a closet. My husband gets the (awful, skinny) closet and the drawers you see on the bottom here. My things that would typically be found in drawers are in the baskets & boxes you see on this wardrobe system.

I'm still so glad Laura Cattano, the professional organizer who came over and assessed the place acted like I didn't have that much clothes. Bless you, Laura!

Stuff I've Bought That I Love Overdrive

IMGP2576
Completely out of control Stuff I've Bought That I Love going on here. Every single item, high & low, is something I absolutely love and am completely satisfied with its purchase.  -Bicycle, dollar store bicycle lock, $20 bicycle basket, Billabong faux-snake purse, new bag of make-up from MAC... Love it all.

That little brown & white striped bag... was full of new make-up from Bendel's. I finally went and cashed in a gift card. I got some fall eyeshadows and I got this WHOREY, ORANGEy-RED Nail Polish because I feel like I need to rebel against all the matte, earth-toned nails going on. The other stuff is pretty tame. I'm trying MAC's SPF Tinted Moisturizer for the first time. 90210 day new make-up

I LOVE make-up tester hands. And $1 jewelry store rhinestone bracelets.
IMGP2578

My outfit was kind of off today due to the miserable heat & humidity. These pants are pretty un-flattering and they're hemmed for a very short-legged person, but I just love the acid wash. And the fact that they were $8 in Arkansas.

Maybelline Amethyst Smokes eye shadow quad in the house.
MAC Fluidline Macroviolet (dark purple) cream eyeliner & MAC Opulash Mascara.

Going to that class has me back on the make-up wagon. And not running late in the morning helps!

Coral Face + Opulash!

The other night I went to get some make-up education from my good friends at MAC. I've always gone to the one at Henri Bendel on 5th Ave., because it's the best location walking distance of my apartment and of course, Bendel's is fancy. Who doesn't want to have a fancy time? And now I have these Loves!

My make-up Loves

I am into "Lady Make-up" lately since I work at such a lovely, normal company now.

I got a grey eyeliner, coral Cremesheen Glass - it feels amazing. (This is not my first shade in this formula.)
I got the Cremesheen Glass in the shade/color "Richer, Lusher"

The Power Point eyeliner in a completely matte Grey Utility.

And I got their new mascara - Opulash. Their answer to Dior Show, which I love. OMG I just looked it up and Opulash is HALF THE PRICE of Dior SHOW! Get into it.

This is the very first application of my new tube of Opulash and I don't think the wand-brush is even saturated. I'm saying it's going to get better than this:

[caption id="attachment_1040" align="alignnone" width="287" caption="First application of a fresh new tube of MAC Opulash Mascara"]First application of a fresh new tube of MAC Opulash Mascara[/caption]

I took this pic because I can't get over the huge wand on the Opulash. And now I can't get over the fact that it's half the price of Dior Show. WHat's up with that?! It's awesome, but dang! This wand is as big or bigger than my eye.

Fat Winged Eyeliner

All MAC Make-up:
Fluidline MAC eyeliner in Blacktrack. It's wet and water-proof, so you have to work deliberately, however, if you lay it on too thick, it will "flake" off and you'll look like a fraud. You need an oily remover to get it off. I met "Fluidline" at Martha Stewart. The make-up artist used the gorgeous plum purple one on me. I think you can put it in your "wet-line" which is the inner-rim. But I'm not picky about what I put in there.

I use Mineralize Powder if you're interested. The artists say you can layer it on but you can't go too far. And one compact lasts a very long time.

_JPH0134

The nude lip is Viva Glam 2 (A28) You can't get a Viva Glam on Back to Mac b/c the proceeds go to charity. Get "Ruby Woo" on your back to MAC. It's the "Gwen Stefani Red" and it's matte finish is perfect.

Yeah, I think I've lost weight. I'm not "Stress-eating" or "eating to stay awake." How lovely.
Make-Up 3/16/10

I met some girls to see Alice in Wonderland yesterday. IMAX 3D is the bomb! I want more! I can't wait to see the Hubble 3 and take Matt with me. I thought Astronaut Mike Dexter was in my lap! I loved it!

I don't quite understand the make-up look they chose for Anne Hathaway as "The White Queen." Harsh mouth & brows.

Here's my Wardrobe Remixer for today:

I've def. lost weight but like I said- I'm terribly well-rested and not stress-eating.

Magenta

This pic is from Jan. 21st. but this is one hell of a Magenta lip. I belive it is MAC "Girl About Town" or "Amplified" on top of an equally rich lip-liner.

Green Eyes/Wednesday Night

Hmm... what is some bullshit outfit I can throw on?
Wed. night outfit

Matt's watching b-ball so let's do an intricate eye-shadow look to kill time.
We are wearing a green tank top so let's just roll with that.

The necklace is from my child-hood pen-pal, Amalia's wedding. It was my b-maid gift/jewelry. My dress didn't survive the night- I threw it away at the hotel, but I wear this necklace and the earrings (separately) pretty regularly. They're both top-5 accessories.

Meghan's parents (love me and I love them) sent me an Aloha Obama bobble-head and he's going places. First off - 5th Ave for the Apple store & Plaza Hotel!

The Plaza doesn't look like herself right now, because she's covered in snow and the fountain is all dried up. Sad.
