Small Gifts

It's a small and lovely gift when Central Park is closed to vehicular traffic. It really gives me a little thrill when I turn the corner to enter the park and find out that it's exclusively for bicycles and people and doggies. (It is closed to cars on the weekends and late night, but not M - F on my commute to work.) I guess all that snow on Saturday was the cause for this treat.

I saw this double-scary stuff right before the park - DIRTY SNOW + DUMP TRUCK so I stayed back. Yuck. Getting dirty will not be tolerated.


When I saw the barricades at the Park I was so happy. No cars. Peaceful.


It set me off to a great start on Monday morning.

I pull my glove/pot-holder off with my teeth so I can operate my camera.
A red jacket is excellent for visibility. 

I never take pictures of this view of Central Park South because it's usually too stressful and congested.


Before I put my helmet on, I took pictures of my all-the-way-around-my-eye eyeliner. I never do eyeliner on the bottom and wanted to check it in the camera. I blurred or smudged it pretty well. I thought I looked more EMO but I look ok in the picture. My outfit was all black. I wasn't trying to be EMO, but I do like themes.


Monday I also tried out some new super-cheap-o glitter oxfords.

These guys are pretty excellent bicycle shoes. 

Talkin' Bout 'Scara

I often get asked "What mascara do you use?" and it kind-of changes over time but
I wanted to talk about this new Revlon one I recently got because it's so impressive for a drug store brand. Forget that- It's just impressive mascara.

This Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara is bananas!

I didn't curl them today either. This Revlon stuff crazy-good.


This nail polish is Essie in Geranium.


The wand is enormous. The Revlon brush on top of the MAC studio fix brush.

I got a big bag of Revlon make-up from a gift bag from a benefit-thang Matt attended.
If you come over, remind me to let you grab bag from this monster bag of stuff!
People keep coming over, and I forget to share. 

I also tried this Color Stay lipcolor - lipstick in Ultimate Orchid. I don't want to call it gloss because it's not really glossy.  It feels kind-of dry, but it didn't go anywhere all day. Serious staying power.

I believe Revlon's Color Stay products are the most long-lasting. Sometimes hard to remove even, but isn't that the point?

Party Parrot make-over edition

This fancy vintage coat got a button make-over. I'm a big fan of taking a cheap coat and classing up the buttons. I don't have a good close-up of the old buttons, but they were dull silver plastic. I got these gold & silver anchor buttons and M&J trim shop.



I got the email for the Iris Afpel collection at MAC. I studied the items and I made a list, so I wouldn't get in there and go nuts buying all kinds of things. Focus! My list-idea worked and I only came out with almost what I intended to get. 

This is MAC Party Parrot lipstick over Embrace Me liner.

Friday I was happy to do a pretty bare face and wear the Party Parrot hot pink lipstick. It's sold out online currently. I also go the lip liner in "Embrace Me" and it is so good I may go back and get another. MAC hasn't always had a hot-hot pink liner like this.

I was very thematic.


Saturday afternoon I went over to Barney's to get the new Simon Doonan book signed for my play-brother and his boo. Simon was fancy and precious and was really interested in what my *brother was like. Then he asked about my lipstick. I told him it was from the Iris Afpel collection at MAC and he went on about how much he likes her and how she's in one of his prior books. He was very sweet. This is one of the best signatures I've seen.


The win of the day was that I got to take off my sweater and ride bare-armed! It's amazing the weather we've gotten this year. Beyonce's womb must be behind this. 

Bonnie always has to lay on whatever you're setting down or reading. Always.

Feeling Better!

I'm feeling better and got myself dressed and rode the bicycle to work.

I listened to Malaika about wearing bright stuff in winter. I painted my nails a very summer color and I'm so glad I did.


I'm also VERY Happy with my Pink Lemonade Lipglass - It's enough color to save me from looking like a wet saltine and it's a safe-enough color that I think I can apply it without looking in a mirror.

I'm very happy to see Valentine also has new green jeans. I never translate her blog from French to English. I read it, love it, and enjoy the pictures.

You Remind Me of Mary Poppins

Someone rolled down their car window at a stoplight to tell me I reminded them of Mary Poppins. All I could say was "It's interesting that you say that." Have you heard of this Mary Poppins effect in biking? Look that shit up. 


It was a good day thanks to: Polka dots, pussy bows, red-orange lipstick, full pleated skirt, bicycle times, 66º this morning, and pop-in visitors at work. 

I had to kill time after work and I went to look for jeans at the Manhattan Mall. I bought some extremely sensible Levi's 515's. I still had time to kill so I explored a really ramshackle-looking store called Square One. I ended up getting 3 great pair of skinny jeans/pants in there on the ultra-cheap. 


I swore I wasn't going to wear jeans again until October, because it's so hot, but I might not be able to help myself. 


*My event tonight was kind of a bust - it was over-crowded and very loud. I was just thinking "I don't want to be in a nightclub anymore. Ever." 


*I was in the Meat Packing District so I got on the West Side Greenway and rode down to the Sno-Ball place. They're in their last week before they close down. 


I'm going to miss Sno-Balls but I'm kind-of happy to wear jeans again. 

Fancy Times - The Campbell Apartment

I love this gang I'm in... This little gang of Ladies who ride Bicycles... Some may call it a Pussy Posse...

I'm really glad I met Sheryl. She's fun on the internet but she's really fun in person too. This was the first time I met her at the BikeNYC Blogger Meet-Up Back in very cold March. We were the girliest speakers. It wasn't hard to bond with her. I also met Amanda who was there that night. She seemed shy.

I met Malaika in June at a bike class and I think Amanda and her boyfriend dubbed our foursome the Pussy Posse. We're OK with that.

That was day 2 of my having the Linus Dutchie bike. Those black tires didn't last very long.

Now we're at the end of August and it was Sheryl's 40th Birthday and she invited us for fancy cocktails at The Campbell Apartment in Grand Central Station.

She celebrated BIG and I saw her earlier in the day at Summer Streets and I also went to the Manhattan portion of her evening birthday festivities. (She had a Brooklyn party too!)

We were happy to get dressed up. I re-wore my New Year's Eve dress.

I wish I had paid better attention to the cocktails I had. I definitely had Prohibition Punch and the Jasmine Tea Rickey.

I have wanted to visit The Campbell Apartment for a few months since I heard about it. I'm glad I got to go and I'm glad it was such a sweet celebration for a lovely friend.


I think we might be discussing booze. Booze plans. I don't know. I do know I was wearing false eyelashes on this occasion. Of course my husband didn't even notice.


Proper attire in my eyes meant "Put on a fancy dress and false lashes!" My make-up boyfriend Jesse at MAC puts them on for me. I've never applied them myself. I haven't tried, but that's my story. Why do it yourself when someone can do it for you and you can play with make-up and gossip? 

Happy Birthday Bitch Cakes!

*I read Sheryl's blog for a few months before I met her. Her name online is Bitch Cakes. It's weird to refer to a person as Bitch Cakes. So it feels a little strange saying that- Happy Birthday Bitch Cakes! 

Beauty Injury Day

I had a terrible beauty injury today. I hurt myself doing something I've gotten away with for about 19 years. I thought I was going to permanently be wearing black-out shades like this:

My left - your right. I was late to work because I had to sit and let it cry and water-out for about 10 minutes. 
I'm going to pick up a MAC 204 brush - To Avoid this old-fashioned injury. But I know I can't quit the 'pin. It's the best! 


Funny there were safety pins at the self-timer spot I went to in the park this morning! What a coincidence!




Thrifted gold necklace - Forever 21 leopard top - Ribbon belt - H&M dress shorts - Forever 21 bow flats. Really glad I can wear shorts and skirts. Sorry, dudes. 

Yesterday I dressed like Little House on the Prairie and wore sensible shoes.

Target dress & fake keds. Belt from some Charlotte Russe shorts. Wal-mart $5 sunglasses.

Back to today's little top; it had this little bullshit bowtie thing and I cut it off and used a more substantial belt.




Cute tshirt I fawned over pulled the trigger on today.

And I might go to this because I'm a fan.

LipStain is Perfect for Snaggle-Tooths

My very own snaggle tooth that lipstick always gets on.

I saw this Revlon lip stain - Just Bitten in Flame- on some silly blog or magazine and thought I might get some for a nice lite lip color for summer. I realized that stains don't get on Snaggle Teefs and this made me very happy. 

This was the hottest day New York City has experienced. People are pushing the limits with shorts at the office. I got on board. I love all forms of civil disobedience.
God, I know I am so white. 

This is my summer easy make-up for sweaty-faced summer days:

MAC Concealer (I wear NC20 because I'm the palest)
Studio Fix Lash Mascara
Revlon Lip Stain/Just Bitten in Flame
MAC Pentabulous Liquid Eye Liner
Peachy-shade blush (I broke it out of the compact so I don't know the shade name)
MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study - It's the bomb because I apply it with my finger and it's a base and sometimes I put gold on top or navy or gray or black or plum. Get some. 

I put some MAC Lip Glass on top of my stain for moisture and gloss before I left.


I think it's a good thing that I stop mid-commute and take a little break and take pics in the park. Sweat Break! Rest. 


And the A/C at work actually froze me to deaf. 

Matching your outfit to your bike 101

I didn't try to match my bike today, but it's a happy coincidence and of course I love the color palette.

This is a TJ Maxx $16 or $19.99 rainbow leopard print dress and a little girls section elastic glitter belt from H&M. Claire's boutique white bow sunglasses. J. Crew leopard tote in the basket. Patricia Field Polly heels. They're not the best bicycle shoes. I will give-in and admit that. But they're very comfortable.

My nail polish is Essie Tart Deco and at first I thought it looked mac & cheese, but it's grown on me and I'm so happy I see Gwen Stefani also has peachy-orange nails so that's good affirmation.

Two pink watches- Neither one set very accurately.

Sanrio 50th Anniversary McDonald's Happy Meal My Melody watch and Casio digital from Target.

New York City is finally stinky, sticky hot. Tomorrow I am gonna slut it up to beat the heat.
