Matching your outfit to your bike 101

I didn't try to match my bike today, but it's a happy coincidence and of course I love the color palette.
Monday
This is a TJ Maxx $16 or $19.99 rainbow leopard print dress and a little girls section elastic glitter belt from H&M. Claire's boutique white bow sunglasses. J. Crew leopard tote in the basket. Patricia Field Polly heels. They're not the best bicycle shoes. I will give-in and admit that. But they're very comfortable.

My nail polish is Essie Tart Deco and at first I thought it looked mac & cheese, but it's grown on me and I'm so happy I see Gwen Stefani also has peachy-orange nails so that's good affirmation.

Two pink watches- Neither one set very accurately.
Dos pink watches
Sanrio 50th Anniversary McDonald's Happy Meal My Melody watch and Casio digital from Target.

New York City is finally stinky, sticky hot. Tomorrow I am gonna slut it up to beat the heat.

WahWee Summer Fun!

Saturday Late Night
We will run out of clean clothes very soon, our dog is overdue for a bath, and our apartment is a mess, but we are tearing it up with festivities because it's finally summer. -Even though my 1st bike got killed- we still had a big, fun weekend.

Saturday I got up and was devastated to be relegated to riding the subway in gorgeous weather. I had to find new wheels fast. At least the subway cars had on a cute outfit for me.

I went to Target to look at their Schwinns. Bad news bears. I thought this fender was dented and damaged, but it's just shaped like this. Yucks.
Yuck r u kidding me?!

I always try to explain to people that the selection at the Target in Harlem often leaves something to be desired. This was a good example - So many empty slots in the bike section.

Help me, Mary, please.

I got on the subway and rode forever and ever (to me, I'm spoiled with biking) down to SoHo. I kind-of can't believe I bought a new bike in SoHo. I'm typically more of a bargain-driven shopper. I went somewhere that has a really good reputation but am not in love with my experience.

Waiting. Waiting.  Pretty Covers at a deli.

I finally checked the color of the new bike by taking a peek into the box I waited to see- and said "Build it! Build it Fast!"
Then I headed back uptown to get ready super-quickly to go to this LSU Alumni event all you can eat Crawfish Boil thing that Matt was amped about.

I didn't cut-up and reconstruct his HSU shirt like I did mine. He wore a Duke hat to represent all of his schools.

We didn't go to LSU. Apparently, a lot of southern schools share NYC alumni events and we kind of heard about this second-hand. We had a real LSU alum in our party. It was at The Boat Basin Cafe and it was a cool outdoor venue on the Hudson River.

We drank tons of beer and took a nap in preparation of going out late on Saturday night. I rarely go out clubbing or dancing late-night, but this was an especially attractive lineup.

I got ready. Still working' my summer coral lipgloss!
Saturday night makeup

I realized I had a dress that matched the invitation, so I wore that.

We had to see the performance by Narcissister. She's my favorite performance artist/dancer.
We saw her back in December and Peaches and Debbie Harry were there, and I told Peaches that I was a fan like a total dork. Peaches was really tiny in person. Debbie H. is kind of out & about but it's still special to see her! (Peaches & Debbie were at the Narcissister performance back in Dec. -just to be clear.)

Her body is perfection and I love that when she came into the venue, totally separate from going on-stage, she was wearing a big, baggy, prairie-style dress. It's so intriguing that she covers up her amazing body with a big frump-dress. I fell even deeper in love.

A special "only in NY" time

Matt went out after midnight! We literally left the house after midnight. I do that maybe twice a year. I don't think we've ever gone out together like that in our almost 10-year relationship. And Matt was on-call and had 2 pagers on him.

Out LATE!

We were home by 2am. Thank goodness! We can't hang like that. I typically use Pond's Cold Cream and enjoy plenty of Beauty Sleep. I have shower caps and a rain bonnet. 2am is foreign.

Today we did Central Park Row Boats for the first time. It's really lovely. We went with one of our favorite couple-friends. We took sandwiches and drinks and made Matt row us around the whole time.

Then Matt went to work and I went to get my new bike! My last stinking subway ride in good weather for what I hope is a very long time.

Good Summertime Weekend!

Like Hell I Can't Ride in These Shoes...

Forever21 Gray Booties
Yes, I have these in brown too. They're from Forever 21 and I think they're last season because I can't find them online to put a link.

My dress is really fucking short. -I just realized this.
Bike Outfit Today
My outfit info:  Roxy dress. Gap leather jacket I've had forever, and pushed up the sleeves to look extra cool & tough with my heart-cut-out fingerless gloves and spotted tights.

Central Park this evening
I was in such a hurry to get home to walk Bonnie that I asked a stranger to take my photo in Central Park. This little walking path in the park is in tons of shows & movies.

I got HECKLED outside of work when I was un-locking and getting ready to ride home: "YOU CAN'T RIDE IN THEM SHOES! YOU CAN'T RIDE IN THEM SHOES!" I didn't even look in the direction of this rude person to actually get a look at them. He was yelling this at pretty close range. Yuck!
Forever 21 Gray Booties
OF COURSE I didn't respond verbally or in any way whatsoever. You do not respond to 99% of strange men on the street in New York City. I didn't even look up.

But really, what a rude dummy. How did he think I got there in the first place?! I rode to work in these shoes, homie! And mind your own bees-wax, sir.
A Fed Ex guy said something like "You go with your bad self." And I did.

The weather's only been better for a few days and I've already been stopped by waaaaay too many fellas on the street who initiate conversation on behalf of the bicycle and then it turns into some other junk.
Last night at a stoplight I said "When that light turns green, I'm out of here - make it quick."

4/4/11 Panda - Dotted Tights

I saw buds on trees today, daffodils, buds that I don't know the names of - Four days into April and we're finally getting visual signs of spring!

Cycle Face
I am happy! But remember, I'm not cycle chic, because I'm wearing a helmet. A bern watts helmet.
I feel pretty cute though. My little bow tie necklace is from Forever21. I have it in gold too. It was $2.80. Cheap chic!!! The lipgloss in this helmet photo is MAC Wonder Woman collection lipglass in Emancipation. That was a terrific purchase!

What's under that helmet? The best angle of my new haircut:
Cute hair angle
That is MAC Chatter Box lipstick. I think Speed Dial is prettier, personally, but this was fine too.

This was DAY FOUR of 30 Days of Biking, but I'm totally scared of all the rain in the forecast coming up.

I can breathe! Mad Men is back!

My make-up
I looooove Mad Men and I've been in agony waiting for it to start-up. I didn't really go anywhere this weekend, so by Sunday afternoon, I was rip-roaring ready to go see Mad Men festivities in Times Square!
Headed to see Mad Men in Times Square
Matt is feeling poorly, so I went by tough-self.

The Mad Men festivities were in Times Square. I work in TS, but my bicycle lives a privileged indoor life, so I took her photo as I locked her up and walked away in case this was goodbye.
Bicycle Lock-Up - Broadway
In my crazy little mind, I felt like The Late Show + David LEtterman's spirit would protect my bicycle. It worked!

But! There was a crisis - My dress's zipper BROKE! It was RIGHT before the show started and some girl behind me was like "Your dress is broken" And I was like "Yeah, but what am I gonna do about it right now?" And I turned around and enjoyed...

The Costume Contest!
IMGP1509

Some excrutiatingly painful trivia. The people who were in the trivia game were TERRIBLE!

But then I got to see Elisabeth Moss + January Jones!
Mad Men Season 4 - Times Square
January Jones is a super-skinny bitch! Her legs are twigs!

The weather was cool despite this awful, hot summer New York is having. I had a lovely seat and held my busted dress together for the show.
IMGP1516

I never really lost dignity. The top of the zipper stayed in-tact.
Busted Zipper - Goodnight!

I was able to scurry to Forever 21 and get a big shirt to cover all my business up for the ride home!
