In Central Park

I let a bike cabbie take my bike outfit pic today! He was a pretty smooth dude and offered to take me on a "tour" on his pedi cab. He assured me he can be found in this location all the time if I need to see him again. He did have an impressive binder with sights and the movie posters associated with those sights. Very organized little presentation if I do say so myself. I'm taken, but I appreciated his pedi-cab driver smoothness.

Pedi Cabbie & Me
P.S. - I LOVE how Pedi-Cabs are everywhere and I love the movement to stop using horse-drawn carriages and use pedi-cabs instead.

In addition to riding in heels 2 days in a row, I've started wearing my iPod nano and ONE earbud because gosh, it's so much more fun jamming out and taking in the city and feeling the freedom on the bike. It's like the first time I was in a museum that had a loud, jamming band - Full Sensory Indulgence. It's against the law for bicycle riders to use headphones in/on both ears. I'm upright & civilized, got it?

Seriously, riding in heels and especially these booties is a lot more secure feeling than riding in flip-flops. But I do really love riding in flip flops!

I'm feeling a little anxious about how it's getting dark earlier and how much I may be riding in blackness this fall & winter and how I might be investing in some more/more serious lights. Ok, the city is well-lit, but you know what I'm saying.

NYC Treasure Trash via Bicycle

I think the bicycle has been the #1 cheap transportation method this summer, but Bolt Bus is the other. Right now I'm riding a $17 bus down to Baltimore to see my cousins. It's fabtastic that this bus has WiFi and I've got my whole row to myself.
NYC Skyline
When I get out of the city and see the skyline, it's still unbelievable that we live/sleep/work in that jumble of buildings. It's very good for your soul to get out of the city sometimes. Central Park gives you a breather, but I understand how you would get very angry & mean if you could never get away from this.

I rode my bicycle all week! - 5 days of round-trip work commuting from the UES to Times Square/Garment Dist. Friday I was feeling the need for comfort.
Summer of cheap! $4.50 red fake keds and an Ezekiel (skater brand) dress that I got on super-clerance a while back.
Friday Morning Helmet in hand!

I didn't go anywhere special after work this week really. Pretty much straight home or just a tiny stop, but an awesome stop happened when I spied something PINK in the garbage on East 56th Street. Finding neat stuff in the garbage is strangely fulfilling.

The guys digging around in the garbage were very encouraging and offered to help me tie it on. I thanked them, and told them I wanted to figure it out for myself. My bungee cords are life savers. I got several packs at the Dollar Store in Arkansas. Little Short ones, I'd say about 10" & 12" long. That's all I need. -So far.
Max-Cap Bicycle Luggage

When I've been in a pinch previously, I used ribbon to tie things on to my bicycle. It's not the sturdiest method, but it's fine for 3 miles or so. I've also got a huge shopping bag on there. The straps are just tied around my rear rack.

This is what I call a pedi-cab traffic jam. These ladies were cute and scared for their life riding in this rickshaw. They were like nervously laughing as he was jamming through the cars.
IMGP1800
I was slowly behind them with my heavy bag of sweater samples. I was a wide-load too!
WIDE LOAD Bicycle Friday

I hope one of my friends with a tiny dog wants this animal carrier b/c my baby-girl is way too big.
I just couldn't leave it in the trash!
Friday's awesome garbage find.
It's going to be perfect when it's cleaned up.

I can breathe! Mad Men is back!

My make-up
I looooove Mad Men and I've been in agony waiting for it to start-up. I didn't really go anywhere this weekend, so by Sunday afternoon, I was rip-roaring ready to go see Mad Men festivities in Times Square!
Headed to see Mad Men in Times Square
Matt is feeling poorly, so I went by tough-self.

The Mad Men festivities were in Times Square. I work in TS, but my bicycle lives a privileged indoor life, so I took her photo as I locked her up and walked away in case this was goodbye.
Bicycle Lock-Up - Broadway
In my crazy little mind, I felt like The Late Show + David LEtterman's spirit would protect my bicycle. It worked!

But! There was a crisis - My dress's zipper BROKE! It was RIGHT before the show started and some girl behind me was like "Your dress is broken" And I was like "Yeah, but what am I gonna do about it right now?" And I turned around and enjoyed...

The Costume Contest!

Some excrutiatingly painful trivia. The people who were in the trivia game were TERRIBLE!

But then I got to see Elisabeth Moss + January Jones!
Mad Men Season 4 - Times Square
January Jones is a super-skinny bitch! Her legs are twigs!

The weather was cool despite this awful, hot summer New York is having. I had a lovely seat and held my busted dress together for the show.

I never really lost dignity. The top of the zipper stayed in-tact.
Busted Zipper - Goodnight!

I was able to scurry to Forever 21 and get a big shirt to cover all my business up for the ride home!
