A Little Apartment Update

We live in a peculiar little tenement apartment. It's about 375 square feet.
Our gossip bench is so precious to me- I moved it so that it would be in a more interactive spot.

I love sitting on it to do my nails.
Gossip Bench- Moved.
I got it at The Habitat for Humanity Re-Store in Hot Springs Arkansas around Christmas and shipped it to myself.  The pink telephone is what we use to buzz people in through the front gate of our apartment building.

We braved Ikea Brooklyn in the rain last Sunday. We had things we were looking for, but this was a total surprise. This shoe rack- ikea_stall_shoe_rack

-Is now our TV stand in the bedroom! I love it. It got the TV out of my CLOSET. It's also put our TV at a great angle for watching Maddow or Conan while we go to sleep.

Getting the TV out off of one shelf of my wardrobe has already majorly helped.

Lastly, I'm using these little baby chairs as an end-table. I've been using them in random spots as tiny tables and as stepping stools.  I got them on the sidewalk on York Ave., on and early morning dog walk.
Baby-chairs as end table?

I don't know if they'll make it there, but I'm looking for a tiny end table. I hope I find something on the street. Treasure trash is fun!

NYC Treasure Trash Table Progress

A few weeks ago me and Bonnie dog found this on our early morning walk.
Treasure trash

I decided that it's really handy and it fits on this tiny wall next to the refrigerator. If this refrigerator was full-size it wouldn't work out; fortunately we live in a miniature apartment with a mini-fridge so it works!
Snug Fit

The landing pad in the doorway has little gloves all over it, so I decided this table's little drawers might be a hot spot for my gloves & shades. I lined them with some Marimekko oil cloth leftovers.

And put in gloves & Shades!

I need to get fancy drawer pulls for this guy and that's all I'm going to do to it. I am not going to be the one who paints this crazy old naked wood.

Commute is getting pretty pretty

Morning Commute
It's fall for real and my morning bicycle commute through Central Park is so pretty!

Good Morning Grass

I'm feeling much better today. I've been a sick pup.
Morning Me

Love my commute

I'm still working hard un-packing at work and construction workers are still everywhere so I'm covering up and not worrying about dressing. But gold Reeboks were in order for today.

WEdnesday

On my way home I spotted this lone stool in the garbage.
Found this

I want to use it as a side-table until we find something better. You never know- maybe this will be a hit. I need something little, and the diameter of this will work.

I put him on my rack and walked it home because I was so close to home anyway. A bungee situation would have been great because it's so light.
Walking it home

Tomorrow is the live taping of 30Rock! I am leaving work early and taking Matt, and afterward, we are going on an Outback date! - I know- of all the great places in NYC we are choosing Outback, but I have a ton of positive associations with it from working there in college and having a great experience. I also desperately needed Outback the day my Martha Stewart segment was on TV and I was freaking out about how would I ever make all those necklaces people ordered - I needed Outback to comfort me.

NYC Treasure Trash via Bicycle

I think the bicycle has been the #1 cheap transportation method this summer, but Bolt Bus is the other. Right now I'm riding a $17 bus down to Baltimore to see my cousins. It's fabtastic that this bus has WiFi and I've got my whole row to myself.
NYC Skyline
When I get out of the city and see the skyline, it's still unbelievable that we live/sleep/work in that jumble of buildings. It's very good for your soul to get out of the city sometimes. Central Park gives you a breather, but I understand how you would get very angry & mean if you could never get away from this.

I rode my bicycle all week! - 5 days of round-trip work commuting from the UES to Times Square/Garment Dist. Friday I was feeling the need for comfort.
Summer of cheap! $4.50 red fake keds and an Ezekiel (skater brand) dress that I got on super-clerance a while back.
Friday Morning Helmet in hand!

I didn't go anywhere special after work this week really. Pretty much straight home or just a tiny stop, but an awesome stop happened when I spied something PINK in the garbage on East 56th Street. Finding neat stuff in the garbage is strangely fulfilling.

The guys digging around in the garbage were very encouraging and offered to help me tie it on. I thanked them, and told them I wanted to figure it out for myself. My bungee cords are life savers. I got several packs at the Dollar Store in Arkansas. Little Short ones, I'd say about 10" & 12" long. That's all I need. -So far.
Max-Cap Bicycle Luggage

When I've been in a pinch previously, I used ribbon to tie things on to my bicycle. It's not the sturdiest method, but it's fine for 3 miles or so. I've also got a huge shopping bag on there. The straps are just tied around my rear rack.

This is what I call a pedi-cab traffic jam. These ladies were cute and scared for their life riding in this rickshaw. They were like nervously laughing as he was jamming through the cars.

I was slowly behind them with my heavy bag of sweater samples. I was a wide-load too!
WIDE LOAD Bicycle Friday

I hope one of my friends with a tiny dog wants this animal carrier b/c my baby-girl is way too big.
I just couldn't leave it in the trash!
Friday's awesome garbage find.
It's going to be perfect when it's cleaned up.
