Rainy Day Cute Commute

I look like I'm pushing a shopping cart! I did transport a lot of stuff this morning.
The forecast for today was bad, but I would have been pissed going to work on the bus because there wasn't any rain on my way... Going home was a different sad story.

Let's talk about my outfit! It looks cute from a few feet away. If you look closely, my belt and the plaid of my shirt need to stay the hell away from each other.

Jacket - Best jacket! Thrifted in Tampa, Florida.
Plaid Blouse- Vintage ESPRIT Found in Hot Springs, Arkansas at the Good Goodwill on Grand Ave.
Belt - H&M - Matches the Jessica Simpson gray suede wedges
Jeans - Citizens of Humanity... can't think of the style name (I LOVE the denim bar at Barney's! I get all my fancy-brand jeans there and usually on sale.)

But this morning I was fresh! These jeans are creating illusions about my legs. These jeans plus 3" wedge heels are tricking your eyes into thinking my legs might be this skinny.


I did a big cargo ride this morning. Had to pack & ship it today.


I totally underestimated the wetness falling from the sky on my way home and got really angry pretty fast.

I bought SIX Boxes of GirlScout Cookies today and they stayed at work. (1 box of each flavor + 2 boxes of thin mints.) I can't jeopardize their well-being by bringing them on my bicycle and in the rain! I care too much. I also got 4, yes FOUR pair of sample sweatpants -Don't worry, they're cute, cropped ones like LL Cool J - for FREE today and decided they weren't urgently needed at home.

If I have to ride in the rain, I have to leave the things I love in safety.
It's enough to worry about myself in the rain - can't be worrying about stuff.

It was kind-of distracting riding in the rain. I caught myself being caught up in the misery of things like drips falling off my helmet onto my face or my hands being cold and wet or thinking "is this rain ruining these awesome suede shoes?" and realized it was distracting me from paying attention to the cars & road. Should have left the bicycle and taken the Subway.

Lesson Learned!

Pick-Pocket Thursday

I am obviously not too shy about my messy wardrobe hanging out in the background. Don't care.
Here's my Thursday outfit-

Forever 21 top, robot necklace, and skirt. Roxy tights with tiny bow ties and Steven by Steve Madden boots, which are surprisingly comfortable.

My outerwear look was cute. I'm happy this jacket (it's warm enough to wear him again) is back! I put on a hat because I didn't ride and I'm used to putting a helmet on last-thing before I leave in the morning, so something had to mess up my hair.



Thursday, after work, I got pick-pocketed on the bus. Illustrated with Google Maps for your understanding of location, length of trip- It was a short trip!


I'm not too upset because I wasn't paying that much attention to my bag/s and the bus was extremely over-crowded. It was raining. It was hell. My bag does not have a top zipper-


The saddest part is that the wallet that was stolen was so cute! Now I'm scared to carry a cute wallet. I'm going to rock it granny-style for a while.


I'm going to be protecting my bag like a football player and carrying zip-closure bags until the hole in my heart heals over the loss of that cute wallet.

Good Outfit - Lazy Pics

I've been kind of lazy about taking outfit photos, but this was a good combo- especially for a Monday! I'm also wearing a new Birthday Gift necklace! I swear I had the best birthday of my life this year.

The glamour of my tiny steam-boat-style bathroom is the real treat.

The gusty, gutsy winds of March will undress you.

Don't look at these leggings- I only put them on for the ride home because the wind tried to undress me this morning and I was pretty cold. I underestimated the crazy wind.

This was my indoor look- I like this outfit. I felt like a Lady of the Prairie.

This morning I got really mad because my closet is out of control. All my stuff is so jammed together and even if I pick something out, it looks like wrinkled shit because it's so overcrowded, and by that time I don't have time to steam it or iron.  

  

Tonight I bought a bottle of wine and did some great work on my clothes-storage thing. (Meaning: I think I can dress myself in a more efficient manner for a few days with less anguish!)

It took me WAY too long to find something to wear, but I'm happy with this outfit. This is an Arkansas-Thrift skirt, and old-as-hell jean jacket. 

These Forever 21 booties are so comfortable and great bicycle shoes, that I'll probably go get them in gray.

L.A.M.B. handbag and black & white wallet of L.O.V.E. I'm trying to give my little black bag a rest, because I can just tell I'm running it into the ground.
Those Claire's heart-cut-out driving gloves still look much better than I ever expected back when I paid $8.50 for them.

There was De La Vega graffiti in chalk all the way around the bike lane in Central Park.

My makeup was pretty today- that's MAC lipstick in "Curtsy" and Olive eyeliner.


My hair is insane, but I wore it back and wild and liked it. This is before helmet.

I don't worry too much about my hair if:

A. My makeup looks pretty 

B. I know I'll have to rehab it after I get there and take my helmet off anyway. 

By the end of the day, my face looks like bolognae, but helmets are awesome! I added these leggings because I was a cold chicken.


The wind was so strong this morning, I swear it was trying to undress me! I feel like I did some flashes against my will riding down 5th Ave. Curses!

It's dark because I did some shoppin' after work. I might have gotten some gold skippy-moccasins.

I'm so excited and I'm extra-excited to see Gloria Steinem in the flesh at the Planned Parenthood rally this weekend. I'm annoyed that we have to rally for this ultra-important cause, but I'll be there with some high-quality lady-friends! Woo hoo!

A Major High - NYFW Got Me

I got high on something really shallow and quasi-meaningless today. I got my street style photo taken by at least a dozen photographers in a 30 yard vicinity. I walked by a set-up/tent/red-carpet-ish thing for a big fashion show today and I got high. One approached me and started snapping, then it snowballed and then I was more flattered than you can imagine and totally fucking high on the fact that I had on an outfit of mostly Forever21 and cheap stuff and I'm about to turn 31, and all these people were taking my photo and even asking for a beauty tip and asking me to speak into a little microphone.

It was silly-fantastic.

This is what I looked like. I hope and pray some of the photos end up online. I think the leopard fur jacket and the printed skirt made me an attractive street-style target.




It's a little sick how that kind of attention can make you feel so amazing, but I want to be honest and emphasize how crazy-good it felt.

In related egotistical news- I was feeling lustful feelings for a more stylish bicycle. I don't want to be a bike snob though! I love my super-cheap bike!



I played it safe today and wore some keds instead of trying to bike in the new platform heels.

I Lurve Birth Control Glasses

I can't believe there are still huge snow mountains everywhere. Go away!
I got this cardigan at Forever 21 last night in a whiplash shopping spree.



I just started reading Man Repeller and I'm in love. She's precious. I love her use of the term "Birth Control GLasses" This Saturday I'm taking Matt to get some glasses from a brand she wears Warby Parker.

This is an old pic, but today I wore these trusty old Charlotte Russe booties I wore to death in the fall.





I try to let this L.A.M.B. bag rest because I love it so much, and I'm going to be Dev-A-STATE-ED when it breaks/wears out. I try really hard to let it rest but I just can't help myself.

She needs to live forever!!!

Looking Special for No Special Reason

All I did was get ready to go to work, slip on ice on the sidewalk, catch myself gracefully, pop right back up, ride the bus, ride a subway, walk a few blocks, work, go to Muji because Laura Cattano gave me a great idea for our dry sink, go to sanrio, ride a subway, ride a cab, and go back inside the apartment and take all of this cute outfit off.


I'm never very rarely uncertain about anything. I'm one of the most decisive people. -On the whole planet. But I'm not sure how much I like this hair. Part of having short hair is growing it and going through fugly growing pains and I think this is what's going on. Again, I am using the lipstick-as-distraction technique. This is the best side of my hair right now.


-If you don't like your hair, or if you know your hair is bad - distract them with bright lipstick. 

Tuesday Commuter Moods

Snowing! Again! This winter must be stopped!


My outerwear look. Thank goodness for this little parasol. It's not a wide umbrella, which feels rude on cramped sidewalks, but it protects me.


This is really the 2nd time I've actually attempted to wear these Sam Edelman Faye shoes and they really are hard to walk in. I didn't even attempt to wear them outdoors. 

Monday was OK. No I'm Lying- I went to The Colbert Report!

Monday started out pretty normal. Yes, I matched my eye shadows to my outfit, sure. Just another Monday. Ok- I had a girl-date, but a radical change of plans happened and we went to see The Colbert Report! He's really precious. I must say he's more adorable than Jimmy Fallon.

One year I got that Built by Wendy kit with the book and the patterns and this tote bag and nope! Never made any of the patterns. Still got 'em. 

Sloppy Snow Friday

I woke up to a thick fluffy snow. When I walked Bonnie it was absolutely everywhere. By the time I was almost at work (about 2.5 hours later) the sidewalks were clear. Only the sewing man and the ginormous button were still covered with snow.


I guess he's super busy, but he looks lonely.

I meant to wear flats/sneakers today to give my feet a rest from cute shoes, but these booties make my silhouette look so much better I had to go through with it/them.

Tonight Matt picked me up from work and we simply rode the subway home together and picked up Chipotle on the way home. It's disrespectfully cold outside, so we sat on the couch and caught up on our Jersey Shore/30 Rock/Parks and Rec. watching.
