Not a cover model but still an honor

Thanks to Velo Vogue for letting me know I'm in the new What Women Want issue of Momentum Magazine. Very exciting! I can't wait to go out and buy some hard-copies. 1 for me, 1 for Grandma...

julie_in_momentum

Grandma is going to be stoked to pull this puppy/issue out at her group home.

I also can't wait to see what they have to suggest in rain gear as I've recently been washed out literally and I'm also touchy about cycle sheek so I'm eager to read those articles too. I am going to read it cover to cover thrice!

Bike Visibility Tactic: Wear a Flag

wear_a_flag
I like the idea of having a FLAG on my bike. I love bike visibility tactics.
Instead of finding a bike flag and attaching it I just wore one today.
8-25-2
I swear to you, if you take vitamins you can have bike-bruise-free ultra-white legs like mine.

These big sleeves created exciting billowing in the wind and some wind resistance.

I've adopted the grand plan to buy red/red-orange clothes this fall for bike visibility.
And because red/coral is trending hardcore.

LadyBikers Bike Polite

I was super LadyBikerStyle this week! Girly biker!
july4-8
I feel a little guilty because it's not that hot here. I'm enjoying pretty pleasant and sometimes breezy rides in the mornings. (My commute takes place 8:15 - 8:45am approx.)
I BIKE POLITE
I'm so happy my I BIKE POLITE sign arrived from Transportation Alternatives! I have some craft ideas for this guy.

Get your badge here. There are some really cute ones!

I get super-happy seeing other ladies on my commute then my heart is BROKEN when they do rude and dangerous things.

Occasionally sweet old-lady pedestrians will Thank You.

Skirts on Bikes with Jasmijn Rijcken

Jasmijn RijckenJasmijn telling her story and pumping us up for our ride.

Jasmijn Rijcken being told by a NYPD officer that biking in a short skirt was dangerous has been a hot topic in the local news and huge in bicycle news. There have been tons of stories about NY Police stopping people for totally legal things, like hanging a purse on handlebars.

Personally, I've never had any bicycle problems with the police.

Jasmijn brought these signs and shared them with many of us: I LIKE THE WAY I BIKE, I BIKE THE WAY I LIKE!
Skirts on Bikes Line-Up

This ride was very well publicized and very well-attended.
Skirts on Bikes getting ready

We even recruited some riders as we went along. This cutie joined us!
We recruited her!
I was telling her about the after-party that awaited us at HUB and she texted her friend/s to meet her there!

Dan from Linus is behind me. There were some nice gentlemen riding with us.
Me at the end

We passed out fliers about why we were riding and our flier had the map of our route:
Passing out flyers on the roll
We rang our bells the whole way through and attracted a lot of attention. I stopped several times to talk to people and almost always found myself chatting at stoplights about what we were up to.

Chatting at a light:
Skirts on Bikes

The event started at Hudson Urban Bicycles at 139 Charles Street. They loaned out bicycles to anyone who needed one. This lovely lady (I'm sorry I'm so bad at names!) borrowed this gorgeous lavendar Abici.
Love her and Her!

Basil had tons of panniers and baskets to give out. This cutie scored this basket. She had the perfect bicycle purse- the little sequined Coach cross-body.
Cute girl!

Jasmijn was very busy! She's a tall lightning bolt of energy!
Jasmijn is busy!
My little dress is from TJ Maxx and old H&M Belt. Lipstick is Revlon Fire & Ice.

One of The.Most.Exciting.Moments was when I realized that Karen and her Fyxation Pink Tires were there! I geeked out over this girl! Pink tire sisters meet!
Sisters + Sisters

Her bike is super fancy. I'm so glad I found out about pink tires from her! Her bike was featured on a Transportation Alternatives e-newsletter. Love at first sight.

When these 2 ladies walked up to the event I was so HAPPY Because I immediately recognized The Jane Hotel's Bicycles! They informed me they were here on vacation from Australia. They found out about the event from a flyer. I'm so happy I met them and I hope they find the pics!
Australians on Jane Hotel Bikes!
Jess & Claire! I asked their names at least three times. Then I implored them to rent bicycles to do their Washington D.C. tourism because it's still one of the best things I've ever done!

Another awesome moment was meeting Joanna Goddard! I love her Cup of JO blog! She and this sexy blonde from *I believe, but I may be wrong- Swedish Elle* I think* in the white jumpsuit.
Joanna

I chose this Basil Rosa Double Bag (Basil had tons of free giveaways!) for Kate Middleton. I also met a nice guy who works for Linus. He was definitely taken by Kate Middleton's beauty and asked to photograph her. I was a proud Mama.
Basil Pannier!

I actually was allowed to take so much free Basil swag that I had to break out the bungee cords and serious strategy to get it home.

I feel like I spent so much time telling people they need to get on Twitter and get active with the #BIKENYC hashtag. It's so educational and fun! I find out about so much fun stuff and so many of my coolest, neatest new friends are all because of #BikeNYC - Dmitry was first, then Amanda & BitchCakes to name a few!

The Skirt Ride was filled to the gills with photographers & cameras and I look forward to finding more articles about it but to start I've found:

How I take my self-timer pics

This morning my normal self-timer spot was very busy, so I found a new one on the fly and thought I would show you how I take all these pics of myself all by myself.

I spotted this fountain. It's at a good height to hold my camera.
Self-timer set-up

Then I set the camera on the edge.

Then I go stand in front of that shit.
Morning

I've got some new sandals that I got at Walmart in Kansas for $3! THREE DOLLARS.
3-Bones at Walmart Sandals
Sorry about the Buzzard Feet!

The tank is from walmart too. $3.88 -The print is kind of too much for a girl of 31, so I threw on the vest at work so I wouldn't frighten the older people with all this neon leopard on my chest.

Ooh! Here's my new Kate Spade necklace I got through an online sample sale.
Don't fight the shine
This is also what my hair is doing right now. I think this is a pretty good representation of my natural hair color BTW.

See my shiny skin? My make-up boyfriend told me that this summer he doesn't want anyone to wear powder. Don't fight the shine! You can't beat it, so why try? He also said "Lashes not liner" And coral lip.

I put on my helmet this morning then realized the ride would be more pleasant with a coral lip.
New Kate Spade necklace

And it was!

Sofa King Hot
I stopped half-way home and got a Spongebob pop in Central Park because this day was Sofa King hot!

I wore jeans today and nearly burned alive. I rode home soooo sloooowly and still wanted to tear my jeans off and leave them in the street. I am not wearing jeans again until October.

Drop-Crotch Pleated Mom Jeans

mom_jeans
Mom jeans? 80's pleated jeans? Yes. These are new summer jeans that I was compelled to buy. They are Marc by Marc Jacobs and I have big plans for them this summer. They're really lightweight and high-waisted.
I put on fancy gold flip-flops at work. I'm not ready to ride in flip-flops just yet. Feels a little bit Fred Flintstone. It was rainy/sloppy today and baby wipes were put to good use on some dirty ankles.

My our Doom's Day Bike Date is live on Simply Bike!

This is one of my best self-timer photos to date.

Check out this cute bicycle wedding!

2 Prissy LadyBiker Tips

I thought of 2 more tips for beginning LadyBikers on Saturday when I was out & about trying to stay lookin' fly.
My full outfit

Carry a bandana! Or handkerchief! To dry your hands. On rainy days. Or all the time. My bike got RAINED on Saturday and this little bandana brought me many quality of life points when rain was squishing out of my handle grips.
Carry a bandana on rainy days.

Also- EVERY DAY when I lock my bike up outside of work or wherever, I find the nearest window to catch my reflection and make sure the general shape of my hair does not look like I walked out of Frankenstein's Lair.
Fixing hair in reflection
Work your hair back to shape in that reflection so you don't walk in and embarrass yourself or heaven forbid you dissuade others from wearing a helmet.

The events of this evening are (hopefully:)) going to appear later as a Guest Blog in The Bike Date Series on Simply Bike. My first guest post!

Bike to Work Day Success

Of course I rode on national bike to work day!
natl_bike_to_work_day

natl_bike_to_work_day
This hot-ass-pink dress was awesome for bike visibility. I felt cars being repelled by its brightness.

A hot pink halo of bicycle safety!

The weather was nice and Matt's working in a lab-environment right now, so he rode too! -Because he doesn't have to wear a shirt & tie these days.
Angry Matt
This is when we met after work at Herald's Square (near the giant Macy's) where the bike lanes are over-stuffed with slow-walking tourists. He is so angry with all the pedestrians disrespecting bike lane etiquette.

Matt threw on a pearl-snap shirt upon arrival and we were given the cutest wrist-bands I've ever seen.
Matt Cute Plaid

We rode down Broadway to 5th completely in nice bike lanes. We rode around the border of Washington Square Park and then we were practically at our destination- Le Poisson Rouge.

For this event- The Glamour Ball. So VIP drinking the cheapest drink on the menu! We're fancy.
So VIP

I am hopelessly devoted to the event's co-host and it was a fun show mixed with Drag Queens and Burlesque Ladies.

This was a most entertaining performance- I don't drag Matt out to bullshit events.
Triumph!
This performer has a PhD in Theatre and she did the evolution of this horse from cowgirl horse, to imprisoned carousel horse, breaking free and becoming a glorious unicorn. Triumph!

After the show the weather was perfect and we rode up the West Side Greenway in a slow, leisurely manner. These flowers thrilled me!
I love these flowers!

Matt posed in front of New Jersey and the Hudson River-
Matt on the West Side

But he also yelled at me for being dangerous and taking photos while riding. As usual.

(Even though I bike to work all the time) National Bike to Work Day was awesome!

Leopard Lady Bike Nerd

IMGP5663
I hope the nerdy look on my face distracted people from the shortness of the dress. It was still a great bicycle dress - ruffles ruffling in the wind!
I need to get some little hot shorts and do a better job of wearing them!

I apologize for the trash cans & sewage drain in the photo.

IMGP5666
This dress is 20 bucks right now at Charlotte Russe. The belt is thrifted from Arkansas. Converse are the best bike shoes! Keds are cuter, but converse are stronger & tougher.

Right before I went out the door this morning. My purse weighs 10 pounds!
