My Lady Gaga Concert Review/Swoon

After I heard Scissor Sisters were opening for Lady Gaga, I couldn't shake the irrational desire to go to the show. I even slept on the idea of going through with it. Sometimes I say to myself "If you're still hot for this tomorrow, then look into it." And that's what happened.

I typically find whatever tickets I want online/Craigslist sometimes, but this was tricky. Gaga was sold out. I went over to Madison Square Garden after work and discussed my options first with scalpers, then the box office, then back to the scalpers. I wondered if it was worth it and I felt regret sneaking up on me when I would walk away from MSG, so I decided to stay. (I really liked her interview with Anderson Cooper.)

Scalpers won- I was walking down the street (toward KMart if you're familiar :) ) and a non-scalping gentleman offered to sell me his extremely expensive ticket and a bidding war broke out betwix the three of us. The scalper won my money. (Sorry guy!)

Then the scalpers got into an argument about which one of them was getting "my sale" which tells me this scalper gang was working on commission! Scalpers on commission. Wow.

No one even announced the Scissor Sisters, they just came out and started playing. Jake had on a really hardcore gay outfit, but his body is in amazing shape. I've seen him once and maybe twice and both times I just blew him a kiss. Ana Matronic looked gorgeous- she had like a blue outlined eye. They thanked Lady Gaga for hiring them out and stated that they've never played MSG before. So sweet. So sweet of Gaga to invite them! She's winning my heart...

There was a break after Scissor Sisters and some of the moms I was sitting by with young girls were getting antsy about staying out late on a school night and I was right with them!

I also felt so dorky because when I got dressed for work this morning, it was 17º and I was running late from the start, so I barely wore makeup. My hair is extra dorky and I had to do a ton of fittings today, so I pulled a dozen or so turtle necks on and off over this helmet/hair.

So I was chilling at The Lady Gaga show in this outfit feeling like a straight-up Mom who should have been escorting teens to the show. You can't see my face - that's why this pic is small. It looks worse than a no-makeup look.


Gaga is AMAZING! Such a performer! I'm not even the biggest fan, but maybe I am now. I was so happy I got myself together and went to this show. Really early on in her performance I thought "I totally support this crazy little girl."



I walked away very happy that I supported her tonight. I hope she's a gender-studies or feminist studies character for generations to come. I love her encouraging her fans and how humble she seems and her telling stories of how she wanted to be "The bitch singing and dancing on the stage"

I love how she commands that all of her fans be confident and free.
Her singing was excellent and soulful at times, and she pointed out that she would never waste our time and money by lip-synching.

It was also kind of amazing that late in the show (The fake blood was on her and all the dancers - I knew they wouldn't turn around and get to a clean place) no one was leaving the show early. It's a Tuesday! People paid fucking attention and I believe they respected her too much to leave before she was finished putting on her show.

It was SOLD OUT. Packed.

The whole thing was being filmed for an HBO special which will be out in May.

I bought a light-up bracelet that I think is going to be a swell momento; but actually a great light for my night time bicycle riding! I've been thinking of alternative lights. Alternatives to traditional (fugly) bicycle lights!

I Saw a 6 Story Beauty Tonight

When it gets hot again, I'm going to have to slow way down when riding, as to not break through my sweat threshold. 

Wednesday was the first day of the new snow blizzard everywhere so I wore my trusty Levi jeggings. 

Waiting for the bus tonight, I saw this beauty on the newly re-vamped Dior.

This is on 57th between Madison & Fifth.  

She is 6 stories tall. I love her. 

This is my least favorite commute-home. I do it for the shopping/windows. 

Mascara note:  My MAC friends say I'm the only one left who loves Pro Lash (Coal Black.)

I get prettier results when I use Opulash, but I'm better with Pro Lash if that makes sense. 

I work better in the medium of Pro Lash. 

I also have a Gap note- The Gap is on Sale and I got some useful things on sale plus 30% off tonight.

And the purple velvet Keds! for like $8. These are my first real Keds since the early 90's. I'm so happy about them I'll probably wear them tomorrow

Pedals Replaced With Bonnie-Dog's Help

Last night I had a brush with Danger when my pedal broke off between Madison & 3rd Aves.
Sorry for the litter! I didn't realize what was truly happening until the traffic was really flowin'

When I got home, Bonnie dog assessed the damage.


Then today I rode the bus & subway to work because it was snowing.
Biggest flakes I've ever seen! We closed down the office at 2. Yay!


I got home nice and early. I needed to walk Bonnie, so we multi-tasked and she towed the bicycle to Larry & Jeff's. She literally pulls really bad on her leash. This was kind of hilarious and awesome. (I was walking/steering but she really helped pull it!)




I asked if they could "order me some cute pedals" but they didn't seem too much into that idea. I was advised that I need something more grippy or something, and less-cute until after the winter.

When the guy helping me was asking about what kinds of shoes I'm riding in and I proceeded to explain "Boots with mid to high heels" I could see the "OMG" in his eyes.

Bonnie was welcomed inside the shop. She looks handsome in her horse-style coat and gold Martha Stewart for PetSmart leash & collar.


We waited for the new pedals to be put on and I fielded questions about Bonnie's and my history together. I also had them replace the totally missing for weeks screw on my chain guard. Clank, clank, clank!

There isn't a photo of the new pedals yet... but they look like little kid rugged-style pedals. That makes me happy. They're small and fine, but they're groovy enough that I will have to be careful that they don't rip my tights or pantyhose.

If the skies are dry I plan to take a joy-ride down to Chelsea to check a little Rauschenberg Exhibit before it closes.

True/False - I shopped so hard at KMart that FOUR STORES LATER a nice stranger informed me that I had a tag in my hair and it was a 99 cent clearance tag from KMart. TRUE!

True/False - Tonight is the first time I bartered with a gypsy cab and got him down to the normal taxi rate to take me home after this shopping. TRUE!

True/False - The words "I need a corn dog and a diet coke" crossed my lips. TRUE!

Wow, it was a good, fun, nice day. True, True, True!

Before it was even 7am when I was walking Bonnie, we, Bonnie and I, found this little table in the garbage. We, no, I stared at it and just felt like I couldn't/shouldn't leave it, so we brought it home. I carried it. Bonnie is no help!

I don't want to be the one to paint this natural wood - If I can even find a place for it - but I could upgrade the knobs.




























I was reading a lot of magazines at work today and in the new Allure Magazine, Julianne Moore says she's used Oil of Olay with SPF 15 for 25 years. Another influential fact: Julianne Moore is gorgeous and about to turn 50. I'm listening to her.

I'm almost out of moisturizer, so I got this. I think this is what she was talking about. I hope it's awesome b/c it's not even $10. I'll report on whether it works or not.


But let me begin with the whole reason I was out shopping. The Rally in DC this weekend. Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore Sanity. I'm going to live out of a single backpack for at least 36 hours. Ultimate Urban Girlscout time is here.

Mini umbrella, emergency rain ponchos, WET WIPES and typical snacks that should fare well and pacify my needs.

I did this business at KMart and I shopped that KMart (34th Street) up and down. True- I tried on hats, accessories, looked at all the Christmas Stuff. Not until at least 4 stops later did someone tell me a tag was in my hair. I think THIS HAT. This cute, new hat, gave me a case of the tags.

99 cent newsboy! THis is going to be great for when I'm rolling around in ultra-dirty hair.
Expensive haircolor preservation demands a dirty-hair lifestyle, I firmly believe.

These are my FAVORITE thing I got at KMart. I love hearts. Champagne-colored, leopard, yes, yes, yes! $8 for allll these useful earrings. Usually when I buy a little "sheet" of studs I think about who I'm going to share the ones I won't wear with. I'll prolly keep all of these.


Then I went to Old Navy to give my search for skinny cargos another go since these were in the window for $19. Comfy, pretty color, work or casual times. Wore them to the grocery store and they stretched and the waist sagged real bad but I can wear a belt or get it taken in a little. Or sag 'em and be gangster.


Can you believe I did all this stuff tonight and went to the grocery store? What's going on with me?! 

Bonnie was being not-herself and hanging out on the bed with me through all of this. She wasn't just in it for the Milk Bones, she wasn't even that impressed with them when I opened them up for her. She obviously wanted to check out earrings and stuff.



My outfit today. It's 70! So warm for NYC almost November. I love it. This outfit said "Let's go to Kmart and get clearance tags in our hair, then walk around several stores looking crazy... with BRIGHT YELLOW tags in our hair!"

I told my friend I don't feel good getting into the gray nailpolish fad because I would be too white-trashy. I feel like reds go with the traditional white-trash-look flow.

Too bad these metal studs on this tank don't look that hot because it's a really cute tank that is going to be very useful this fall/winter. Even though I HATE racer-backs! I'm ready for racer-backs to go away. Too much bra-drama.

In dressing for the rally, I'm most likely going to get this Obama print fabric and wear some accessories I hope to make out of it-
and my Roxy Rainbow Leopard backpack won't Match. It will be the clash from hell and I don't want any rally photos to not be coordinated. Sorry, I'm like that.

So I decided I needed a solid American Apparel backpack, but then I found out that shit is $42! Damn! So I was happy when I remembered The Billabong Store (34th near Macy's) has super-cute backpacks! This is actually a Boy's Nixon brand backpack and I think Matt and I can share it. I LOVE when we can share accessories. Nixon has been good for that lately. I feel a little lame for buying black, but it's probably the sensible thing to do.


And this won't clash with the Obama fabric and whatever bullshit I need to wear for the Ultimate Girlscout adventure at the DC Rally and the adventures matching bus-rides.

I'm riding down there on a Huffington Post bus! I'm excited to see how many people are there. Every time I tell someone about how the Inauguration was, I tell them how amazing it was that it was however-many million people and how completely silent it was during the ceremony and how everyone was simply very lovely and sharing random things like toilet paper and popcorn all day.

I feel like my little backpack investment will be a helpful piece of my comfort puzzle for this rally adventure this weekend!

Today was a super-full, busy-but-fun, GREAT DAY!

The Busiest Saturday

1. Wake-up, walk Bonnie dog.

2. Dunkin Donuts for coffee w/Bonnie.
3. Made myself cheese grits with veggie sausage.
4. Took the 6 train to Bleecker.
5. Checked out the Marimekko section at Crate & Barrel I recently learned about because I was too early to go straight to my hair appt.
6. Checked in at the hair salon. Eva herself hung up my coat.
7. Scored a complimentary manicure because my colorist was running late with her prior client. My nails needed professional intervention and resuscitation.
8. Double process takes double time.  Read tons of magazines. Want the new Nora Ephron book after reading excerpt in Vogue.
9. Starving after hair appointment - Got a Happy Meal at the dirty McDonald's at St. Mark's place. 
10. Went to KMart at Astor place - Got 2 pair of cute gloves. This is one of them with my new polish:

11.Rode the M101 bus up to 42nd Street.
12. Walked West on 42nd. Stopped into Payless. Didn't get anything.
13. Went to M&J to get more supplies for my niece's costumes I'm making. Got mad at their prices and left in a huff.
14. Went to Tohoshoji for the first time. Fell in love. Want to bedazzle my bicycle helmet. Didn't buy anything. I've got will-power sometimes.
15. Stopped at the Billabong store on 34th - Got a cute plushy turquoise Nixon beanie me and Matt will both look cute in. Shared accessories are nice.
16. Went into Old Navy b/c my girl gave me a tip about cargo skinnies (I want some,) but it was too wild. Had to get the hell out of there.
17. Went to H&M @ 34th because it has a kids section. Figured out how to get my niece's size in their crazy size convention. Got her sequined ballet flats for her costumes and a surprise-sorpresa OMG it's a cute Hello Kitty Chanel-inspired puffer coat.
18. Rode the C train up to 81st Street.
19. Rode the M79 crosstown bus.
20. Walked Bonnie. Texted with Jess about her cute family portrait clothes she got.
21. Took Bonnie into Pottery Barn Kids to spy on the costumes I'm "adapting" for my niece. Not that hot in person. (Their prices are $69.99 - as if!) But Bonnie was a hit at PBK. :)
22. Dropped Bonnie off at the apartment.
23. Got pizza from our favorite place on the corner.
24. Started the costumes. Cut up 12 yards of nylon tulle for no-sew tutus.
25. The End. Go to Bed!

Eugenia Kim for Target Hats

I first learned about Eugenia Kim when I needed to find out what other Martha Stewart guests were wearing. I was given the dress requirements - No crazy prints, no white, no black please, no pale colors. (If you don't already know me - I wore this dress.)

Eugenia Kim was the only "young" person who was on in the 2 weeks leading up to my appearance, who I had on my DVR.
Her outfit didn't help me, because my outfit had to accomodate my necklace's style, but I was instantly a fan.

We rode the subway to 'da Bronx to get to Target! Fun Sunday! I tried to buy 4, but Matt made me compromise. I also put back a Zac Posen for Target belt. The more I looked at the belt, the more cheap-o elements I found in it. I had to have these 3 hats. Glad I fought for them!





This afternoon Matt said "I can't believe you aren't trying on your new hats and taking pictures of yourself."

It was too hot this afternoon. I waited until he went to bed. Today is the first day we turned on our air conditioner.





It's too bad I absolutely must wear a bicycle helmet at all times when riding. Safety first!
