I'm Snow Crazy and Adventurous

IMG_0481
I never peer-pressure anyone about riding a bike. I don't pressure anyone, but I'm happy to share and teach what I know. And I'm full of opinions.

Dressing for this snow-day ride wasn't a biggie since it's actually been much colder recently.

I don't want to make anyone think they should ride in the snow like this. I think I am crazy. I know I am crazy and that's how I do my commute every day through Times Square and down 7th Avenue. I think it takes a little insanity on my part to ride where I ride.

I only did this little experiment because I was not going far, and I knew I would be home before dark.
I took it easy on the small side streets and tried to stay in the ruts.

Sometimes there wasn't really a rut at all and I went extremely slow. I did a little pedaling just to keep rolling smoothly which I think kept me going straight. Delivery guys kept me company for most of my adventure.

I went straight over to 5th Ave. which was pretty clear.

Slightly messier and tighter spot on 5th Ave.

You bet I took the lane where I felt like it. I was utilizing the bus lane a little down 5th Ave.

No one honked at me, and I actually got one nice gentleman who rolled down his window (on a side street) to tell me to go ahead. It was still the ultimate in politeness toward a lady on a bicycle and I appreciated it.

I really only went about 20 small blocks and a couple avenues. I live on the far east side and my destination was the Paley Center between 5th & 6th.

I went to meet Malaika to see Carrie & Fred from Portlandia do a Q&A moderated by Julie Klausner.
It was pretty funny. Fred A. kind-of hogged it. Carrie should have talked more. He's nuts but he's really funny.
The Paley Center has a Project Runway All Stars dress display from the Miss Piggy challenge on view til Feb 2nd.

This was an OK side street.

I think my little experiment was OK for the conditions I knew starting out - Saturday lack of urgency and traffic and daylight only.

I realized I was in serious danger of getting SPLASHED and thankfully, that didn't happen.
I also realized this is a terrible idea because if cars had lost control, I would have been smashed. I stayed the hell away from cars to the best of my ability. Even though I went slow enough to pretty much stand up and run, it was probably dangerous and maybe I shouldn't have done it. But it was OK.

Funky gray snow.

You know, I'm pretty down on Linus, so I'm just riding Kate Middleton into the ground like I did my old bicycle until it got mystery murdered.

I didn't want to shame the Linus Dutchie on the internet, but when I meet people in public, I tell them I don't recommend it. That comes as no shock to them when they notice the rust. Yes, my bicycle, Kate Middleton has rust at several points and she has never spent one night outdoors. She is 7months old, new out of the box.

I've also replaced so many parts on it. I love my cute pink parts, and I love the girly look, but I think the original parts were really quite shitty and there was really no question the Linus parts had to go.

I Saw a 6 Story Beauty Tonight

Thursday BEFORE lipstick
BEFORE I put lipstick on.

Right after lipstick. Ahh!
Thursday AFTER Lipstick

Here's this dress back in late October
when I could ride my bicycle and be warm & sweaty!

Ran into Matt

When it gets hot again, I'm going to have to slow way down when riding, as to not break through my sweat threshold.

Wednesday was the first day of the new snow blizzard everywhere so I wore my trusty Levi jeggings.
WEdnesday Indoor Look

Waiting for the bus tonight, I saw this beauty on the newly re-vamped Dior.
This is on 57th between Madison & Fifth.

6 Stories Dior Classic Lady
She is 6 stories tall. I love her.
This is my least favorite commute-home. I do it for the shopping/windows.

Mascara note:  My MAC friends say I'm the only one left who loves Pro Lash (Coal Black.)
I get prettier results when I use Opulash, but I'm better with Pro Lash if that makes sense.
I work better in the medium of Pro Lash.

I also have a Gap note- The Gap is on Sale and I got some useful things on sale plus 30% off tonight.

I got this corduroy jean jacket:

And the purple velvet Keds! for like $8. These are my first real Keds since the early 90's. I'm so happy about them I'll probably wear them tomorrow

Friday = Fly-Day

Friday night after the Dmitry Gudkov photo shoot that yielded these gorgeous photos...

And...
Julie
Wow! I can't wait to mail a print to my Grandmother for her apartment!

$5 Walmart Fake Keds
Billabong Dress bought on Clearance from Swell.com
Bolero-sweater I got for FREE at work - I'm glad I added it, because it made my lip color pop and that would have been a lot of white chest/shoulder.

Matt and I rode over to the Apple/Mac store on 5th Ave around 10pm.
Matt Lockin' It Up
Matt's lockin' his bike up.

Our bicycle styles are so different! I secretly wish he had the Schwinn "Coffee" to match my "Cream."
Night Ride to the Apple Store
This is in front of The Plaza Hotel. I love that we live close by. Our ride was pretty fast and very pleasant due to the nice, night air and minimal traffic.

Just wanted to show this awesome 80's Romper I got at a Cat Rescue Thrift Shop in Hot Springs, Arkansas!
Night Ride to 5th Ave - Plaza Hotel in background
P.S. I carried the iMac in a canvas tote bag tied to my rear rack. Probably not the best idea. Transport home will be more civilized.

We knew this machine was old - the one that we had to take to the Genius Bar, but we were informed that it was over 5 years old. The "Genius" was very nice and let us know that in many cases they don't work on machines over 5y/o, but they'll still look into it and let us know in a few days.
Sick, old computer
This computer is another example of why we are "Blind Faith" Apple product lovers. 5 years and never an issue. It's still alive, but barely.

So that made for 3 separate Bicycle Rides for my Friday - Work Commute, Photo Shoot with Dmitry and Apple Store Late Night Ride. Good Work!

Tell Your Lady Friends...

My ultra-wise, hella' fun BFF said to me today: tell your lady friends that its not 1919 we got the right to vote we can wear and buy whatever we want!

This was in response to my complaining that some of my married friends are listening to their completely unstylish husbands opinions about things such husbands should have zero opinion or judgement on.

This is a problem we were never warned about when we were little girls, or even in cheese-mags like Cosmo. "Help! All my married friends have become lame old turkeys who listen to their husbands who can't even put a pair of socks together!" is not readily available in Cosmo or Glamour, but it's plaguing my life.

In Newsweek this week on the back page, there is this diagram and one thing on it is the year women got the right to vote: 1920. My homegirl is so smart she tosses this reference to 1919 around in our gossip & daily drama smack talk. Love her!

Today's bicycle style photos.

This guy's white & gold bicycle with coordinating baseball bat stole my heart on 8th Avenue today.

Photograms on 5th!

DSCN2532
My new work commute will involve new adventures in Times Square and 5th Avenue. Photos are going to ABOUND this spring and summer and probably for a long, long time.

Our building is next to the Conde Nast building, as in, the VOGUE factory. I hope there will be things to spy on. I hope I will see Good celebrities walking in or out of there.

Thursday I saw The Naked Cowboy for the first time. He was really, really fit. I opted not to be photographed with him, as he was literally right outside my new work-place. I feel like I may get to know him due to this proximity.

I interviewed at my new job 3 times and I've gone in twice for quick fittings. That's 5 outfits already with not much exposure. I had fun in my 2 fittings so I'm happy to start work.

Friday was super windy and COLD but I had to stop and photograph these Bergdorf Goodman windows for my college photography instructor - Ms B! Photograms! Photograms are the "wall-paper" in these windows.

You can see a little of Me in this one...
DSCN2530

My awesome friend Trish suggested I try this YSL Volume mascara. Volume Effect Faux Cils. It's good stuff. I'm not quite used to how long the wand is. My tube of MAC prolash is much shorter = Shorter wand. I was a little shocked that it's $30/tube. Wow! I think MAC Pro Lash is still my BFF at $13 and a helper in the Back to MAC process to get free stuff.

I was sitting on the couch and felt like I have a "Cute Mess" going on in the bedroom. My shit is covering the top of the dresser, but it's full of Matt's stuff 100% on the inside.
Cute Mess Room

I still need to photograph my new, cheap Charlotte Russe accessories. I didn't contribute at all to Wardrobe Remix this week. Blog traffic has plummeted as a result.

Bonnie was not impressed...

Bonnie Dog was not impressed... By this amazing, wonderful, beautiful gown display at the Armani on 5th Ave. at 56th street!
Gaga Dress - Side

Gaga Dress

I got the tip from Suze Orman's Twitter. Yes, the money/power/lesbian who reminisces in her book about wearing her freshest Sassoon pants to her job interview at Merryl Lynch. I LOVE Suze! She said she walked by this and saw Gaga's dress. My Husband is torturing me by playing video games for days, so I got my best friend, Bonnie, and we walked down to check it out. Suze called it, ya'll! I'm so glad she gave me the tip!

This is def. Anne H. but I can't remember Golden Globes, I think? Love her!
My Friend Annie wore this
She's a "pale sister" of mine! One of my favorite NYC stories is when she introduced herself to me as "Annie." My girl.
Beyonce

Warning below... no make-up... And a Fanny Pack! Don't judge.

My baby girl was not impressed with any of this madness.
Warning: No Make-up

More pics are in a little set on Flickr. There were dresses on the inside of the store too, but I was there after hours. 5th Ave. is bananas during the day. And the dresses on the inside weren't sparkly. I'm so happy that I can literally walk out the front door with my crazy old dog and go see wonderful stuff like this.

Here's a dress Beyonce wore. Just smothered in chains & rhinestone goodness:
Beyonce wore this one
Beyonce is my other sister.

I just heard about Michelle Obama's Inaugural Ball gown going on display this week at the Smithsonian and Catching a Wild Hair + a China Town Bus ticket might take me to see that display really soon! Historic Fashion exhibits are my absolute favorite in the whole world. Love!
