Celeb Sighting: SJP

Last night we went to this show, and we had a celebrity sighting worth writing home about.

It's funny that I worked for the lady who dressed the SATC ladies the during time they were working on the SATC movies, but I never saw any of the four main characters up close - I saw some in the street filming but that's it, I think. I saw the clothes up close. Some of the clothes accessories may appear in my nightmares indefinitely.

Last night this changed. We saw her come into the theatre, smiling, looking for her friends.
She sat down right in front of me. She is beyond tiny. The Sex and the City fan in me said "Wow, I can leave NYC now."
I remember back in 2001 & 2002 in my college apartment, we were one of the few homes that had HBO. People were pretty much sworn to silence to have the privilege of coming over to watch on Sunday night when a new episode premiered. This was before DVR's and everything you saw on TV being online the next day.

Seeing her felt much more casual than it would have ten years ago.

I was wearing this:
Friday night date

And Matt looked like this:
Bad attitude Matt

And the show was amazzzzing!
She clapped enthusiastically throughout - sometimes with her hands held up high over her head.
Had I gotten near her, I would have simply thanked her for supporting Obama how she's doing. Love 4ever.

5Boro Bike Tour Review

This video is dedicated to my friend Malaika.

5 Boro Bike Tour Review from JPH on Vimeo.

I hated the tour for myself, but I loved it for the tourists. It was neat at times to see the skyline from different angles and ride on safe, car-free streets.

I think I just don't like bike tours, but I love summer streets.
Summer Streets is a more ideal scene for me.

It did freak me out a tiny bit to be so far south of the State of Liberty on my bike.

This is me in Staten Island. Normal clothes. It was not difficult.

The real highlight of my day was taking this pic of Bill Cunningham. I should have just gone back to bed right after this.

I was really miserable on the tour though, as in, mental anguish. I thought it would be more social for me. It was sad and lonely and everyone's faux Tour de France get-ups made me grossed-out, as in, how did I get myself mixed-up in this?!

Someone said to me at the end, "god bless you, you don't have bike shorts" and I was like "I am fine. You didn't have to wear that." -A sexy beer gut and full spandex.

People said "I can't believe you did this without any gears on that bike!" and again, I was really irritated and could barely respond with "I'm fine. This was just fine. " I was advised that the entire 40 mile tour is very flat and slow, and it was, and I was totally prepared. Seriously, my strapless bra to avoid tan lines was the most uncomfortable element of my day. I never had to get off and walk my bike. Please.

I also saw someone in clip-in pedals fall smooth over before the tour even started, so I'm sure all the people who buy that stuff feel the need to justify those purchases by breaking it all out big-time for every event possible.

I'm happy to be home here!

Glad I raised money for Planned Parenthood through my fundraiser. Glad I saw Lindsey's new bicycle.

Over and out!

5/15/12 Update: I got a bunch of angry feedback on this post. This is "The Julie Blog" not the "Angry Anonymous Jerks" blog. This blog is about my opinions and life experiences.

Lela Rose was up in there!?

leila_rose_lucky_mag

This little princess from the Skirt Ride turned out to be the daughter of clothing designer Lela Rose!
Skirts on Bikes

I discovered this this morning while reading the August Lucky Mag. Wish I had realized this during the ride!
I was behind this specialty bicycle for the beginning portion of the ride. I remember noticing the custom upholstery fabric on the inside of the carriage part.

In other Skirt Ride news, Gothamist linked their article on The Skirt Ride to my photos of Flickr. Aww... :)

And I found the group shot where I'm showing you how easy it is to be ultra-pale in June. (Front Right.)

Fashion's Night Out

FNO
Arkansas Thrift Sweater
I chose a comfortable thrifted sweater & jeans AKA Jeggings! And fake keds comfort.
Me & Bonnie

I enlisted a cute little friend who also went to my same college in Arkansas. We weren't at college together at all (she's 7 years younger than me) but her sorority advisor was from my time, and that sorority advisor hooked us up and I'm so glad. Here she is coming out of Juicy Couture on 5th. We decided to not even commit to a glass of champagne there. Too many places to go!
Katie

Our plan was to ride bikes around town, but we just left mine at 45th street and walked from there up to around 70th. I had this strategy that we should stay away from the super-trendy places and head uptown where we would be in a less-crowded environment and hopefully get some nice treatment and not be swept away by a flash mob.

I did install some dumb app on my phone and got BUSY on my twitter account during this madness.

The warm-up sighting that made me feel really good about my strategy was when we walked up on Michelle Branch playing "If I could fall" or whatever her song is/was and there wasn't even a crazy crowd watching her-

I'm going to GLAZE over a bunch of stuff b/c we saw so much but we ran into a friend of mine who does amazing make-up. He had done this window-

We stopped in Herve Leger and we were tempted to participate in their event of trying on a dress and being sketched by an artist. We were feeling too lazy to change out of all our clothes to shimmy into one of those dresses. We had champagne & macaroons to relax and re-group.

I had a really good feeling about the events I had read about at Carolina Herrera. I love her work and hope to one day get a gown or dress from her. I also love that she named her daughter Carolina Herrera Jr.

There was a PR team with clip-board situation outside of it and that made me nervous that there was zero chance of us getting in. Katie simply asked nicely if we could come in and they put us in a small velvet-rope holding pen for a minute then almost instantly let us in.

We took champagne & snacks and I noticed a lady who looked just like Christina Hendricks from Mad Men. Oh my god it was her! I snatched Katie by her collar and we pinned ourselves to the wall in eye-shot of her.

We moved in closer and weren't allowed to photograph her or speak to her - tight security- so I only got this terrible quality photo:

And outside we took another terrible quality photo in front of the monitor showing what this sketch-man was drawing - he was drawing Christina. I guess to print on these tote bags they were selling.

We re-re-grouped and decided things couldn't get much better than that.
We were walking back south toward where my bike was locked up and we saw the Ken Truck! I had read that it was going to be a Barbie truck, but it was a Ken Truck and it was indeed precious.

Katie took a pic with some of the Kens that fell out of the back of the truck:

We visited my make-up friend Jesse and he was so miserable working. Last year I was working at PF and I was Supremely miserable dealing with the crowds & mess.
I was soooo happy to go to FNO as a civilian! You can see my photo set on FLickr if you need more. My Photo skills were fast & furious so my pics aren't the best.

I spent zero dollars unless you count a $2 can of Diet Coke I bought to wet my whistle at the end. I didn't even spend money on cabs cuz I rode the bike!
