Technical Ingenuity

Our last computer we bought, we decided to be mature and not put bootleg software or boosted music on it. Everything on this computer is pure and legal. That's why I have Photoshop (elements) and I do not have Dreamweaver, I make my website with a free outfit called Kompozer (a free HTML editor) I do like Kompozer, it's like Dreamweaver lite. I use filezilla for FTP.

Since my fundraiser is over, and I have brand new, awesome professional photos, I took this rainy Sunday to re-do my website - JPHardee.com

I wanted this navigation menu, and I did some slicing to get the desired result.
Slicing

I literally wrote up what I was going to call/name my slices so I could basically go data-entry style on setting them up. Sometimes I jot down HTML color codes.

And it turned out like this:
working on my website

It all came together pretty quickly, so I'm happy. This is a new, simple design to last at least through the summer.

Yesterday we had a daytime drinking birthday party, so we got drunk super early, rode bikes up the West Side Greenway to stay away from cars, passed out before 10pm and woke up so early today.
I've had a most productive day.

After I made-over my website, I remembered that someone asked for a photo of my necklace on a pure white background. I had researched how to make a DIY light box but had no supplies.

I was sitting on my bedroom floor and noticed this Ikea storage container in my wardrobe. I dumped out the contents and turned it into my light box.

If I had not grown-up as a poor, only-child in Arkansas, I do not think I would have the ingenuity to think of stuff like this.

I got my necklace photo so clean, I was able to isolate it and put it on a transparent background.

This felt like a huge personal triumph in photoshop.

Swedish Side of Jules

I want to win this bicycle contest on Lovely Bicycle! This contest asks for Swedish Cinema Inspired photographs featuring Person + bicycle. I can do that! I watched some Ingmar Bergman films on Netflix for ideas on dress/hair/makeup/accessories/sadness.

I've been stuck at home very sick for the past two days. Sadly, no #BIKENYC has been going on. Kate has been hanging in the bike room. She came out briefly to go with me to the park near our our apartment to do this quick photoshoot this evening.

I knew I liked this filmstrip image.

So I took some images of myself and photoshopped this puppy together.

Here's the Prize:

Lovely Bicycle wants to give this to a woman (Like Me!) and this bike is huge, so it needs to go to a tall lady like Me! I've been fearing for Kate Middleton's safety this winter in NYC and this bicycle would be great for messier conditions, I'm sure.

Wish me Luck!

Woe/Woah

I don't have a day off for 2 weeks until we travel out of town to Orlando! The Film Festival is this weekend and I'll be there pretty much at all times. For the first time Matt will be attending. Since I'm on staff this year my significant other gets a pass and we get tickets for specific things I requested in advance so he doesn't have to wait in the lines.

Highlight items are a Bob Dylan movie, A movie on Larry Flynt (the Hustler Magazine guy) It's a documentary about him called "the Right to be left alone" and he is attending since this is the official premiere of the film.

there is also "Helmut by June" which is Helmut Newton's wife June's footage of Helmut working.

Michael Moore is back this year and participating in 4 programs.

I want to share that Victoria's Secret has started putting out really cheap swimsuit parts and I just bought some. Hey- I'm going to St. Thomas for a few days next month.

Last night I photographed Duke's Marching Band end of year Semi-Formal and it was so sweet & crazy- Just like you would think a marching band formal party might be. They were really nice. They were almost as nice as the UNC kids. These band kids were hard-core dancers and their event was alky free. That's unusual on both sides. They did an awards assembly and they had creative awards and the band leader sang them a song at the end and they went WILD! He was cute- he kind of looked like Anderson Cooper.

This week on Tuesday I'm going to that flower demonstration at the art Museum again. I have rounded up some ladies from my peer-group to attend. I hope they enjoy it as much as I do. The theme is "Flowers of the Nile." it's tuesday at 2pm and it's $20 for non-members, $10 for members.

We also firmed up the plans for a Graduation party in Arkansas for May and I'm making some beautiful invitations. Woo!
